I’ve posted before about the best breakfast cereals. One of the main reason I picked the cereals I did was the simplicity in their ingredient list. A small list of ingredients in a breakfast cereal is really hard to find these days!

Well, I’d like to officially add a cereal to the list! Qunioa Puffs! These are little balls of puffed Quinoa! That’s it!

I really do love Quinoa. It’s technically a grain, but it forms a complete protein! That means that it contains all eight essential amino acids your body needs in order to use protein properly in your body. No other grain ( that I know of does this!) Making this a great choice for vegetarians. (although cereal is not nearly close the the equivalent of a chicken breast, at least the protein you are getting – your body can use!)

If you like cereal in the morning, these puffs are a delicious and healthy way to start your day!

A few months ago I posted about a delicious tomato sauce that I became obsessed with. Here is the link to the post if you don’t remember it.

The Tomato Sauce That LIED!

I even emailed the company to tell them how much I loved their sauce. That is something I have never done before.

Well, they recently changed their packaging. I have to say that the sauce is still made with healthy whole ingredients and no preservatives which is why I loved it in the first place. BUT – here it comes….. the sauce went from 15 calories for 125ml to 90 cals!!! From 0 grams of fat to 7grams.

The Old Label The New Label

The Old Ingredient List: Tomato, Carrots, Basil, Olive oil, Onions, Celery, Salt and Seasonings.

The New: Ground Tomato, Fresh Diced Tomato (okay- tomatoes..check), Fresh Garlic (that’s new), extra virgin olive oil (check), Fresh Basil (check), Sea Salt, Ground Black Pepper (check, check), Chopped onions (check), Tomato Paste.

So where did the 7 grams of fat and 75 calories come from?? The garlic and tomato paste or the fancy new way of saying basil, salt and pepper!?

Ever since I moved form the States to Canada I have been obsessed with finding an alternative to my favorite Greek style yogurt: Fage. Why they don’t sell it in Canada, I don’t know. Anyway, I think I found something!

I love it because it has 20 grams of protein in it! Most yogurts have 2 to 6 grams. This is sure to help keep you feeling full and satisfied whether you eat it as a snack or include it in a yummy breakfast.

I also love it because low fat dairy is great for weight loss! Recent studies suggest that dairy products help eliminate fat from your body!

Not to mention that protein takes more time and is harder for your body to digest then carbohydrates or fat! What does that mean?

1. You burn more calories working to digest protein then you do fat or carbohydrates.

2. Because it takes more time to digest, you stay full longer.

And of course, this product has 150mg of calcium, that’s 15% of your recommended daily intake.

Here are the stats for 175ml (3/4 cup):

It’s Artichoke heart season and I’m pumped. I love the little buggers. Why? Well honestly – I love dips – hummus, tzatziki, roasted red pepper, garlic sauce .. But in order to eat dips you kinda need a pita or a chip to dip it in ! And these are things I generally don’t eat! When the Artichokes start appearing in my grocery store – that’s when the dips (low fat / in moderation of course) come out as appetizers in my house.

Here is how you turn your Artichoke Heart into a pita replacement!

Wash your Artichoke Heart

Cut the base stem off and the pointy tips on all the leaves. This is best done with scissors.

Place your Artichoke In a boiling pot of water, and let it boil for 30 – 40 minutes.

Remove and cool.

Serve along side any dip!

Pick a leaf off! Use the bottom of the leave (the meat) to scoop the dip and then with your teeth you scrap the leaf so that you get the meat from the plant and a little dip too!

* You can also scoop out the top few leaves and put your dip inside the middle of the Artichoke for a fancied up version!

P.S- The ‘heart’ is the BEST part. it’s hidden under all the leaves at the very bottom of the plant! YUMM!

Now, here is the scoop on the Artichoke:

25 calories in a medium artichoke with no fat or cholesterol!

16 essential nutrients!

12% recommended daily Intake (RDI) of Fiber

Not to mention Iron, potassium, magnesium and calcium to name a few!
