COUNTDOWN TO NEW YEARS TIP #2

images

Instead of concentrating on what you can’t do this holiday season, focus on what you can.

WALK.

If you have not already invested 15 dollars in a pedometer, now is the best time to do it. In fact, while you’re at it, buy one for a member of your family or best friend. Having someone to check in with can give you a walking buddy or begin a fun competition of sorts, encouraging you to get those steps in everyday.

WHY 10,000 ?

Before technology came along and made us all lazy- this is estimated to be the amount of daily activity we got. Whether we were mowing the lawn, plowing the fields, getting off the couch to change the channel or playing outside after school- we were moving. The fact is- now we aren’t.

10,000 steps will help with your weight maintenance goals over the holidays. It’s not however a free ticket to drink at every party or eat every phylo appetizer you see. What getting your 10,000 a day will do is:

  • When you do indulge (in moderation) you will not feel so guilty with 10,000 showing on that pedometer.
  • Help you to feel good about yourself, making you think twice about your food choices. Why eat something that is going to make you feel like crap when you feel so good?
  • Take time for yourself this holiday season.
  • Keep you active as the weather gets colder.
  • Heart Health
  • Bone Health
  • Brain Health. Holiday time is a stressful time for many. I always find exercise a great way to clear my head and relieve stress.

Next time you pop into your local drug store, grab a pedometer and start counting. All that is required of you is to clip it to your hip!  It could not be easier! A no brainer!

Here is a link to the pedometer I use:
