Your closet can set you up for a great day or it can make you feel like crap. Kinda silly that we have given a large hole in our walls that kind of power – but it’s the truth. The way you feel in what you wear can really help or hinder your mood for the day.

When you’re not feeling so great about yourself  you’re more likely to give into those cravings. If you feel uncomfortable in your own skin because you tried and failed to put on a pair of jeans, you may think something along the lines of “I‘m already in a bad place, this box of cookies can’t make it worse then it already is“. But if you put something on that makes you feel good- you may have a second look at that cookie box. Confident in the way you feel, you may just turn down those cookies becuase , frankly, you like the way you look in your pants right now.

So, here is what I suggest…

Empty your closets!

Go through your clothes and only leave items in there that fit you nicely NOW. Stick with the ones that make you feel good. This advice is for clothes that are both too big and too small on you.

Like most people out there, this may bring that closet from 100% full to 30% full. But just because your closet has 100% in it, does not mean you feel good wearing 100% of it. With a 30% full closet, 100% of it will be clothes that make you feel good! Everyday, when you reach into your closet you are not going to get mad at yourself for the way something fits. Everything will fit, and fit you well. You can’t start your day wrong! No more baggy bum pants, shirts that are too tight around the arms or dresses who’s buttons don’t quite do-up in the chest area. Now, everyday you’re going to wear something that feels and looks great. And feeling great will help give you that confidence you need to turn down that doughnut at the office!

The best part is, when you lose a couple more pounds (if that’s your goal) you will be able to revisit the items you took out of your closet and put some of them back in. It will be like shopping, FOR FREE,  in your own basement!
