Almonds

IntoFit | August 13th, 2009 | Foods and Products | 2 Comments »

  • I know I sound like every health book out there when I tell you to eat almonds. Yup, they’re good for you and because of the fiber and protein in them, they are supposed to help keep you full.
  • Of all the nuts, almonds have the highest amount of proteinfiber (over 10% of your RDA), Calcium (Just under 10% of you RDA) and Vitamin E. Not to mention they pack a punch when it comes to Iron and folate.
  • But here is my issue with Almonds, once I start, I have trouble stopping. So although these little natural nuggets of yummy are good for me and are supposed to help curb my appetite – I have trouble saying enough is enough AND I don’t really feel so full after a handful! In moderation they are great, but after 3 ounces the “good fats” don’t seem so good anymore! So, when I buy a big bag of almonds, I immediately take out my little kitchen scale and a box of snack bags. I weigh each bag with 1 ounce of nuts and put them in my cupboard for an easy, healthy, grab and go snack. I try to remind myself that it takes 20 minutes for your body to tell your brain that you’re full. After my one ounce of almonds I am by no means full, but I am satisfied enough to tide me over until my next meal which is normally only an hour or two away.
