You get home from work, you’re exhausted. You just want to grab some food a sit in front of the TV and chill out. And you do! So you sit and watch, and watch and eat. And then, when you’re done, for some strange reason you’re still hungry! So, you pause the TV and  grab a snack and sit back down. And without thinking, you eat the whole bag of popcorn (even though you only intended to have a few handfuls).

Television is great for entertaining you after a long day. It’s a great way to shut your mind off and come down from all the days activities. But truth be told it’s not a great dinner companion- for the simple reason that when you watch TV you SHUT OFF your mind (including the part that tells you “I’m full now, so stop eating”).

Trust me when I say you’ll enjoy eating so much more if your mind is active and aware. You want to allow yourself to savor all the delicious tastes and actually be conscious of what and how much you have eaten. If you recognize what you ate and how it tasted you won’t be tempted to go back for more.

  • I say: watch TV or eat, but not both together!

When you get home from work tonight give this a try!  Make yourself a plate of food and sit down at your dinner table and eat. And then afterward go chill in front of the TV ( Maybe even with a tall glass of water in case you get noshy.)  Eating is decadent. Allow it to be! Watching TV while you eat will shut off your brain and take away the enjoyment you (and your taste buds) get out of eating .

My car broke down and I had to walk and use public transit all day. I think maybe this is a good thing even though not having the car sucked!

I love your blog! I am a new reader and find this so informative. Is there a place where we can ask questions unrelated to your current post?

I was reading past posts and saw your sugar-free cleanse. In it you mentioned that you could only eat fruit in the morning or on an empty stomach/3 hours after a meal. Could you explain this in a post? And/or tell us about what other foods you had to avoid/alter when you ate them? You mentioned that you could also not eat foods that your body digested like sugar. I am curious what these are.

    Again, LOVE the blog! Congrats!

Welcome to Into Fitness! I'm so happy you've found the blog so informative. I post Monday to Friday, so keep checking in for the latest tips.
If there are any questions you have or anything you want me to address in a post just click the comment link at the bottom of a post and type away. I am always up for suggestions and requests! I generally try to get back to you within a week at the most.
In term of the cleanse, I have had many questions regarding it. Although it does involve eating whole food that are all good for you, I have yet to go into specifics about it because it is not something I feel comfortable recommending over the internet, especially without a chat with your doctor.
I will post next week about fruit though, and why as a rule of thumb, I generally still try to eat it on an empty stomach.
    Thanks for reading!!!
