Say No and Listen To Yourself

I cooked a healthy meal for dinner (baked chicken parmesan and a big salad), but after dinner I still wanted to eat. I was full, but I wanted a certain taste in my mouth. Salted mixed nuts to be precise. So, I drank a whole glass of water – but even after it, I still wanted those nutty flavors! This is what I did: I talked to myself (and I’m not saying this was easy breezy- because it wasn’t). I told myself I wanted the food purely for the taste of it and I reminded myself that my body does not need nuts at ten o’clock at night to help me relax in front of the television. I reminded myself that I would have a much better sleep if I did not go to bed with food in my tummy and that I would wake up feeling more refreshed. That I would be happier tomorrow if I didn’t eat that snack tonight. Well, I could talk to myself for hours like this, but tonight, it was not working. I still wanted those nuts! In fact, I even took them out of the cupboard, opened the bag and then FORCED myself to close it again. I made myself a nice cup of tea and walked out of the kitchen determined to listen to myself when I said NO. ( And I’m so happy to say, I did!)
