There is this rumor out there that Bananas are not good for you because they’re higher in sugar than other fruits. I’d like to try to clarify this for you. Banana’s are not only good for you, they are fantastic!

  • *One medium banana (about 7 inches in length) packs over 400 mg of potassium and only contains 105 calories. That same banana has close to 2 grams of protein and 3 grams of fiber!
What does potassium do? Potassium, like sodium is an electrolyte. Among many other things- electrolytes work to help maintain your bodies water balance keeping you hydrated, preventing water retention and helping to keep your blood flow efficient throughout your body. Because potassium helps regulate the water content in your blood, getting your RDA ( approximately 3500 mg) of potassium can help to lower your blood pressure! Cool, huh?!
  • For me, a banana is my choice of fruit to grab before a workout because it takes longer to digest, provides me with lasting energy and helps to keep me hydrated. I also reach for a banana when I’m feeling nausea or dizzy.
I believe that bananas are natures version of a chocolate bar ! They sweeten everything up! Try sautéing a banana and putting it on top of vanilla frozen yogurt or chop up a small one and toss it in a warm bowl of oatmeal!
