Chances are, if you bring a healthy lunch with you to work, you’re going to eat it instead of going for Chinese with your co-workers. Here are some easy ideas to inspire you while making your lunch for tomorrow. I would also suggest you make your lunch the night before so that in the morning you can grab and go. I’m sure preparing a lunch in the morning is the last thing anyone wants to do as they rush out the door with a coffee in one hand, a piece of toast in the other and kids in tow.
-
Make a sandwich! Bring an apple, and a cheese string. There is nothing wrong with a peanut butter sandwich on whole grain with a glass of milk. Or try turkey slices with lettuce, tomato and mustard.
-
Throw leftovers from dinner into a Tupperware container and heat them up at work.
-
Bring a cold cooked chicken breast and a bag of lettuce. Toss at work!
-
Hard boil eggs the night before and bring along a bag of lettuce. Toss at work!
-
Make a big batch of hearty soup for the week. Store individual servings of it in separate Tupperware containers and grab a soup for the office.
-
On a whole grain pita, spoon some tomato sauce, cut up veggies and a sprinkle of 2% milk fat cheese. Wrap it in tinfoil and take it to go. You can toast it at work or you can toast it the night before and eat it cold. I personally love cold pizza!
-
In a whole grain wrap- use left over chicken, lettuce, tomatoes, light Caesar salad dressing and a slice of turkey bacon! Bring along a piece of fruit.
-
Make a batch of Couscous or Quinoa, both are delicious at room temperature. Although the names may seem fancy, both are actually really easy to make. If you’ve never made either, next time your at the grocery store pick up and box and read the directions. You’ll be amazed how easy they are to prepare.
-
Make an easy bean salad with a can of mixed beans, light Italian salad dressing and chopped up crunchy veggies like celery and peppers. Bring a cup of it to work along with a bag of lettuce!
-
Have a Mediterranean style lunch! Pack a whole grain pita, a serving of humus or tzitiki, a few olives, some cut up veggies an apple and a slice of cheese or a small handful of nuts.
-
Always remember to pack one or two healthy snacks and carry them with you. If you’re hungry or even peckish, you’ll eat what’s in front of you. If that something happens to be the apple or the cheese string you brought with you instead of the donuts someone brought into the office, your golden!

Oooooh, I love these ideas!!
I have another one. I buy Gardenay soups on sale and leave them in the fridge at work. It’s 2 servings per “box”. So I dump a serving into a mug and nuke it. Then I have the second serving another day that week. I bring a sandwich on the side.
Thanks for the idea! Another great brand of low fat soup is Progresso. Only problem with prepared soups is that they are high in sodium – so just make sure if you have a high sodium lunch, you cut back at dinner!
