My husband likes to call Avocados nature’s cheese!  We put avocado on sandwiches, in cottage cheese with tomato slices, on salads- in fact we look for any excuse to add a little bit of the green stuff to whatever where eating! In moderation of course! Although avocados are good for us, they are high in fat (the good kind) but still – too much of anything, is too much.

Besides tasting delicious, there are so many benefits to eating Avocado!
Avocado’s :

  • Contain monounsaturated fat which helps to lower cholesterol and has recently been shown to help protect against breast cancer !
  • Are a great source of potassium which plays a major role in your body regulating it’s water content. New studies are showing that a diet rich in potassium can help lower blood pressure!
  • Have close to 25 % of your daily fiber requirement (per approximately 1/2 cup)
  • Have 30% of your daily foliate requirement (per approximately 1/2 cup)
  • Not to mention Vitamin K, B6, C and many others!

*Because these guys are high in fat (yes, even though it’s the good kind) I would consider 1/4 cup one serving.
Try adding 1/4 cup of Avocado to your next sandwich! Let me know if you think it’s nature cheese too!
