Drinking In Moderation During The Holidays

Alcohol is pretty much a glass of empty calories. The extra calories you consume (but don’t need) have no where to go! Your body does not excrete them in some fancy way, it keeps them! Holds onto them “in case of emergency!” Here’s the scoop: what your body doesn’t need, it stores and eventually turns it to fat. This works with calories from food as well as liquid calories. Not fun to learn I know- but that’s the truth.
SLOW your metabolism down!
- Alcohol dehydrates you, your metabolism needs water to function properly.
- Alcohol depresses the central nervous system making your metabolism less efficient. (Less fat will be burned off and more will be stored!)
- Alcohol is a carbohydrate. – you’re basically drinking sugar water- yet another thing that will cause your body to store instead of burn.
Tips on how to have just one drink.
- Choose wine, light beer or something like a rum and diet coke over Egg Nog with Rum.A 1/2 cup of Spiced Egg Nog has over 210 calories and approximately 10 grams of fat!
- A glass of red wine has just over 100 calories and 0 grams of fat.
- Go double fist-ed. One hand water, one hand wine or spirit. Have a sip of booze followed by a sip of good old H2O.
- Milk that bevy for all it’s worth! Sip slowly and when someone tries to top you up, lie and say your driving!
- Or better yet- insist on driving! Then you really have no choice but to lay off the alcohol.
