I train people in their own home so sometimes my clients will have their children with them. One of the things I love to do is include them in the workout! How?

  • We play a game called- what kind of animal are you?
If you have kids try playing this game with them for 20 or 30 minutes. Not only will you get quality time with your children, you’ll get to see their imagination run wild AND you’ll get a workout all at the same time! Trust me, being an animal will get your sweat on!
  1. Be a frog ! Squat down and jump up from lilly pad to lilly pad! Maybe even play frog tag!
  2. Be a Bird ! Keep those arms up and out and fly around your living room. Flapping will work your shoulders even harder! Add soup cans or light weight to increase the workload.
  3. Be a Crab ! This is a great opportunity to work your triceps! With your feet and hands on the floor and your body facing the ceiling, lift that butt up off the ground and walk backwards!
  4. Be a Snake ! Work your lower back! Check out – Prone Lateral Raises in No Weights. Just You – Part 8
  5. Be a Giraffe ! - Giraffe’s eat leaves! Reach high up on your tippie toes to get that grass from those trees, and then fold over touching your toes to drink water from the lake. Fun, hun?
  6. Be a Bunny ! Hop, Hop Hop!

Any other animal ideas out there?
Have fun! Let me know how it goes!

  • 15642 Steps. I taught a spin class today and forgot to take my pedometer off, so I’m really not sure how many steps I actually took!

One Response to “Working Out With Your Kids”

  1. [...] I love when I find exercises that mimic something we did as kids, like jump rope, that can make us stronger now! Medicine Ball Throw 1. Grab a weighted medicine ball. *If you don’t have a weighted one, a soccer ball or one of your kids toy balls will be just fine. *The weighted ball adds more of a challenge, but one you can work up to. 2. Stand in neutral, feet hip distance apart knees over your second and third toe. 3. Throw the Ball in the air. 4. Catch it Repeat as many times as you can. Go big! Try for 50! *When you catch the ball, your instinct is to tighten your core musculature in order to stabilize your body. You’ll also get a great upper body work out using your back, shoulders and arms! And you’ll get a great leg work out as you’ll find that you instinct ually come into a little squat when catching the ball. Have Fun!!!! If you have kids, this is a great exercise to take outside with them and include them in your workout! [...]
