Getting Your 10,000 A Day

No, not cash silly! I wish
I’m talking about steps! Walking! I try to wear a pedometer everyday. (For those that don’t know, a pedometer is a little gadget you clip onto your waist at your hip and it counts the number of steps you take.) Why? Well for one, I live in Los Angeles -a city where no one walks anywhere. And two, because back in the day when we all got up to change the channel on our T.V, played ball hockey on the street, walked to and from school, mowed our own lawns – back before technology made us more efficient (and a bit lazy) we were getting approximalty 10,000 steps a day. This is considered daily activity, people. This does not technically count as exercise. Studies suggest healthy individuals should be getting 10,000 steps a day. Sounds like a lot, I know – but once you realize how easy it is to rack up steps, you’ll be well on your way! It’s important to increase the amount of walking and moving you are doing. I suggest you buy yourself a pedometer. You can get them at any drug store or pharmacy for about 10 dollars. Clip it onto your waist and start moving! Work your way up to, and then stay at, your 10,000 steps. Make it a game for yourself. Team up with someone and see who can rack up the most steps. I know these might sound like silly pieces of advice you’ve heard, like, 10,000 times, but they’re true.
- Walk when you can!
- Park far away.
- Take the stairs.
- Walk around your block once a day.
