A Winning Bread Option

I am a big fan of Sprouted Grain bread. What does this mean? Well basically, the grains are soaked before they are ground- keeping the vitamins, minerals and nutrients in the grain.  The brand I buy, and the one that is most readily available in supermarkets is Ezekiel 4:9.

It:

1) Forms a complete protein comparable to that of milk or eggs!
2) Is 100% Flourless.
3) Is as unprocessed as they come. The grains our soaked (sprouted) which keeps their nutrients in tact. Most breads are made with grains that are simply refined into flour-  in the process they lose much of there nutrients.
4) Have a look at the simple and recognizable ingredients of Ezekiel 4:9 :
  • Organic Sprouted Whole Wheat, Filtered Water, Organic Malted Barley, Organic Sprouted Whole Millet, Organic Sprouted Whole Barley, Organic Sprouted Whole Lentils, Organic Sprouted Whole Soybeans, Organic Sprouted Whole Spelt, Fresh Yeast, Sea Salt.
5) High in fiber. Low on the G.I scale.
6) No added sugar. The sprouting processes brings out the sweetness of the bread.
  • You’ll find Ezekiel and other Sprouted Grain breads in the bakery or health food section of your local supermarket. However, if you don’t have a huge health following where you live, you’ll probably find it in the freezer section. It is frozen because the bread is 100% unprocessed and last only a few days on the shelf.

For me personally – a bread without sugar means it won’t spike my insulin and I won’t have a craving for something sweet after I have a sandwich.

You can buy a variety of Sprouted Grain products from pasta, to wraps, to english muffins, hamburger buns and even cinnamon raisin bread! (Obviously my favorite as I’m a cinnamon monkey!)
  • A small warning, but nothing to be concerned with. Sprouted Bread has a different texture than the bread you are used to eating. It is much denser. For some, it takes a bit of getting used to, for others they love it right away! I know I did!

Try it. Let me know what you think!
